Ways To Meet New People And Make Midlife Friendships (Simple Saturdays)

Episode 67 | (00:09):
Hey there, welcome to Simple Saturdays. In the last episode, episode 66, I talked about getting clarity and new perspective on your midlife friendships, and I left you with three things to consider as you get out there and start meeting new people.

Today, I'm giving you a quick list to get your juices flowing about how to meet new people. These are just a few ideas that are going to help you as you start this little journey of making new friends.

One of the simplest ways to make new friends is in-person in an activity that you're probably already doing. Maybe you volunteer at your church or in your community.

You obviously have at least one similar interest, and that could be a stepping stone to having coffee or lunch and seeing if you connect with someone. The key thing here is to just pay attention.

Start looking around to see if you connect with somebody and if you do, ask them if they want to go for coffee after the event is over.

Personally, my favorite way to find out what's going on in my area so I can get out and meet new people is Meetups. If you're not familiar with this, go to where you can sign up for a free account.

Meetups cover just about every topic you can imagine. I'm looking at the homepage right now and it says, "Make new friends. Explore the outdoors. Connect over tech. Boost your career. Find your zen. Share language and culture."

No matter what you're interested in, there's probably going to be a Meetup that will help you meet like-minded people. If you can't find them, you can even start your own group.

I've met a couple of friends here locally since I've been going to Meetups. I met one friend through a business networking group. We hit it off, and we started having dinner together regularly. As a matter of fact, I just caught up with her this past week.

I met another woman who is now one of my dearest friends in the world. I met her at a happy hour that I found through Meetups. We hit it off too. Now we go to the movies or arts events....

Sometimes we break bread together and catch up on each other's lives and sometimes, we catch up by phone. Meetups are a great way to meet people in-person to see if you connect.

If you want to meet people online, there's an app called Bumble BFF. Bumble started as a dating app, but they expanded to becoming a networking app for business as well as a place to find platonic relationships.

Very similar to a dating profile, you'll set up a friendship profile. You write about what you like, what you don't like, what your interests are, and see if you connect with someone.

These are just a few ways to meet new friends. I do hope it helps you as you get out there, start meeting new people and enjoy these new platonic relationships in midlife. How wonderful would that be?

That's it for today. Thank you so much for joining me for Simple Saturdays. I'll see you in the next episode and until then, peace, love and blessings to you and yours. Take care. Bye-bye!
