How Midlife Breaks Can Refresh And Energize You: An Update After My 3-Week Pause

Episode 43 | (00:07):
Hey there, Easy Agers. Guess what? I'm baaaack! Yeah, I had a two- or three-week break, and I feel so much better and so refreshed. Well, first of all, let me tell you what happened. I came back to record this episode for you and my microphone died. Whoo-hoo!

(01:02):
So I'm recording this on my phone and I'm going to apologize in advance if you hear a little glitch or noise because this is not the perfect way to do it. But I just wanted to make sure I got an episode out to you. Not quite the episode I was planning, but I'm going to give you a quick update today.

(01:21):
I decided to take a little break for two or three weeks to get some new perspective on the podcast and on the course that I'm creating for you and a whole lot more.

(01:31):
I realized I started this in October of 2021. It's interesting when you start something like this. It's so easy to get stuck in the weeds. Let me tell you, there was a significant learning curve in all of this. I had to learn all the tech stuff. I had to go figure out every little bitty thing.

(01:51):
Clearly, I don't know all the tech stuff because my microphone is not working at the moment, so we shall see. 😉 On a positive note, there's a warranty on it so we're hoping that we can get that fixed in the next few days.

(02:05):
It's also about finding the rhythm of what I'm doing in creating content and breaking down the concepts so they're simple and easy to digest. Because my biggest wish for you is that you grab onto some of this, even if there's that part of you thinking, This is ridiculously simple. This will never work.

(02:19):
On the contrary, my friend. If this is simple and easy-to-use, easy-to-implement, the reality is you're going to do it, right? You just have to start implementing and being consistent with it.

(02:32):
I started this in October of 2021, and now it's August of 2022. That's what, 10 months? I don't know. I don't think it's quite 11 months.

(02:39):
Yeah, it was a lot, and I knew I needed to stop and take that deep breath. I was noticing my own behavior. I was noticing, Hmm, I'm really procrastinating with this podcast. I don't really want to get into the course. What's wrong?

(02:54):
By taking that break, I really did nothing but relax. I prayed. I meditated. I relaxed because I wanted to get out of my head and just..."be."

(03:03):
Have you ever done that? Have you ever just wanted to get away from everything so you can take that big, deep breath? Sometimes it's like your spirit needs to take a big, deep sigh of relief or whatever it is.

(03:16):
I think by creating that space for ourselves, we're really going to get energized — which is huge in midlife  but we're also going to be coming up with new ideas.

(03:26):
I wanted to be open and receptive to wherever God was going to lead me next, whether it was going to be changing the podcast or adding to the podcast or subtracting from the podcast and the course and all that.

(03:36):
So right now, I'm just a little bit more than excited because I'm going to be adding some bonus episodes for y'all, probably on Saturdays. It's going to be every now and then, it may not be every Saturday.

(03:47):
Because I realized I have some really fantastic content for you, but sometimes I don't have enough for an entire episode. I mean, sometimes it might be a recommendation for something or maybe it's a really cool quote that literally stopped me in my tracks and made me go, "Whoa!"

(04:03):
Because if I see something that makes me stop and think and pause and consider, I know that if I like this, you'll like it too because I am you. I'm on this journey with you. I mean, I certainly have not arrived by any stretch of the imagination.

(04:20):
So we're on this journey together because some of the things I tell you on this podcast are generally things that I need to be hearing myself. By going through the process of breaking them down and creating these simple ways to help you take it in and help you absorb the information, it's helping me take it in. It's helping me absorb the same information and start applying it to my life.

(04:41):
I think I'm calling these little episodes Short and Sweet Saturdays. That sounds like a good name. It may change later but hey, I've just decided it's Short and Sweet Saturdays. And sometimes it's going to be maybe 60 to 120 seconds max, maybe three minutes but I don't even know if I have enough for that.

(04:56):
It's going to be something to encourage you, something to remind you, "Hey, remember on Wednesday we talked about this? Why don't you take two minutes this weekend and do that exercise?" Or whatever it is...

(05:06):
Because I know that during the week, we're all running pretty hard, right? If you have a weekend to take a deep breath, why not start applying some of this to your life now? So that's going to be Short and Sweet Saturdays, which are coming up soon.

(05:21):
I'm also going to be adding some episodes on creativity, episodes on faith in midlife, and episodes on just about any topics that you want to hear about. But here's the deal: You have to tell me. If you don't tell me, I don't know.

(05:36):
If you're an Easy Aging® Insider or you're in my Easy Aging® Facebook group, you've already had a chance to complete the most recent survey where I'm asking about topics, what interests you, what you like best about the podcast, what can we improve on the podcast and all of this good stuff.

(05:51):
If you're not an Insider or a member of the Facebook group, you need to join both of these so I can hear what's going on with you. To become an Insider, go to TheEasyAgingShow.com and there's a big green button right there. You can't miss it. Just click on that and become part of the Insider's group.

(06:11):
I've also got a link in the show notes to the Easy Aging® Facebook group. If you're in Facebook, you can just look for it under Easy Aging® for the Baby Boomer and Gen X Years.

(06:21)
If you're a listener and you want to take the survey and give me your input, which I would absolutely love, you can message me in Facebook or you can email me at [email protected]. There's also a link in the show notes there too.

(06:36):
Once I gather all this information, I'll decide on some topics and bring in some special guests. I'm going to be having these expert interviews from people who specialize in these particular areas, whether it's health or fitness or hormones or nutrition or creativity or whatever it is. And I'll be bringing them in over the next few months so we can make sure that you're hearing from the people who are experts at this.

(07:02):
That's it for today. I'm going to see if I can edit this in my phone and work on fixing my microphone. I hope you're doing well. I'll see you next week and until next time, peace, love and blessings to you and yours. Take care. Bye-bye!
